Reiki for Dogs
What is Reiki?
Pronounced “Ray-Key”
Reiki is a Japanese art of healing that works by balancing and restoring the energy levels of the recipient. Reiki therapy induces a deep sense of peacefulness and relaxation for the recipient and has been proven to have many health benefits. Like other similar energy systems, such as acupuncture, Reiki can improve health on levels beyond just the physical body. Potential benefits
include, but are not limited to:
- Stress reduction and relaxation
- Increased mental clarity and mood
- Improved sleep quality and the ability to remain asleep
- Increased immune response, hemoglobin levels, white blood cell production
- Prepares the body for surgery, reduces pain and inflammation post surgery, and shortens recovery time
- Reduces or alleviates symptoms of chronic conditions
- Can stimulate appetite and balance bowel function
- Facilitates homeostasis
How is it Done?
Reiki can be done on a client or animal while standing, sitting, or (preferably) laying down. There is No physical manipulation; the practitioner uses a series of hand placements and light touch to channel Reiki energy to the recipient, balancing and restoring their energy.
Is It Massage?
No! The Reiki practitioner does not usually manipulate, apply pressure, or stretch the physical body. Touch is optional in Reiki treatment, and when it is used, the hands are lightly rested on the recipient as comfort, conditions and the clients themselves dictate.
Are there any Contraindications to giving Reiki?
There are no contraindications to giving Reiki, as Reiki seeks to reinstitue a natural rhythm of health from working with subtle energies. Reiki can only do good; it cannot be used to do harm. Reiki is an integrative therapy, meaning it assists and improves other medical treatments, helping to acheive a better outcome.
